Karl Lagerfeld has partnered with Sociedade de Jogos de Macau to announce new boutique hotel which will contain 270 guestrooms and suites. Lagerfeld already stated that the hotel’s design would be “kind of 19th-century style, but I want it modern at the same time”.

“When I do a thing like this, I think, ‘Would you live there or not? Do you want to wake up there? Do you think the bathroom is comfortable?’ It’s very childish thinking, but you know it’s like the song ‘My Way”, said Lagerfeld.

Even Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, Dr. Ambrose So, commented, “We are excited to collaborate with Karl Lagerfeld, a multi-talented and visionary designer, to introduce the first KARL LAGERFELD Hotel. Together with Palazzo Versace Macau and our own Lisboa brand, our destination resort will become a hub of luxurious accommodation. This partnership further demonstrates Sino-western cultural interchange which has a long tradition in Macau.”

The new hotel will be a part of Lisboa Palace which will include around 2,000 hotel rooms in The Lisboa Palace Hotel, Palazzo Versace Macau and Karl Lagerfeld Hotel. This will be Lagerfeld’s second time contributing for luxury hospitality, and he is already developing two luxury suites for the iconic Parisian hotel – Hôtel de Crillon.

Developments in the former Portuguese colony are keeping up with a wider trend in the luxury hospitality industry, whereby renowned designers are lending their names, reputations and aesthetic perspectives to hotels.

This is trend we’ve been assisting in the last few years. Luxury houses such as Missoni and Moschino have established hotels in their own names. Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta have also designed properties close to their own holiday homes to offer the kind of hospitality services expected by worthy customer. Or, for fashion designers are also conceiving just a room or two as a statement, like the suite at the St Regis in New York was fashioned with Dior’s Paris atelier design aesthetic.
